Early Years Career Mentoring

Teaching is a wonderfully rewarding career- but navigating those early years can be tough.

At St Mark’s College, Early Career Teachers are supported through their initial years in the profession by an experienced Early Career Teacher Mentor.

The program focusses on the four key aspects of induction identified by the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Learning (AITSL); professional practices, professional identity, wellbeing and orientation while being encouraging and supportive.

As part of the program, Early Career Teachers also benefit from:

  • Weekly one-on-one meetings with a mentor.
  • Professional Development opportunities specifically designed for Early Career Teachers.
  • Access to support services that promote resilience and wellbeing.
  • Peer observation feedback cycles; including pre- and post- observation conversations to affirm practice and establish future professional goals.
  • Guidance to develop and implement a Professional Learning Plan.
  • Support in collating their professional practice portfolio for achieving Proficient registration.
